I felt well taken care of with my stay and the communication with Linda at SkyRun. The home was spotless, had everything needed for a comfortable stay, and came with small things you mightve forgotten while cooking a meal. Although there are signs about wildlife like bears and mountain lions, we saw none which made the stay feel safe. The stars at night exceeded any expectation and it got chilly enough where we had to turn the electric fireplace on which gave it the cabin feel. Wifi wasnt awful, do not expect to be on your phone or laptop a bunch while there anyways.Cons: The biggest issue we encountered was no lighting leading to or at the hot tub which made it impossible to use the hot tub at night for us. I loved how the house is on the end of the street so there isn’t traffic noise, and the view from the back deck is gorgeous and peaceful. In the middle of the night, the Star gazing is AMAZING! The beds were so-so but I’m pretty picky with beds and can’t reduce the rating because of my pickiness. My only real complaint was the number of flies in the house. I know it’s nature and summer, but everywhere else we visited while in the mountains had close to no flies. I’d recommend some creative fly traps so they stop reproducing. Beautiful cabin in the Nederland Mountains -good location for skiing at Eldora and nicely decorated. We appreciate all the info and suggestions about where to park and the sleds for transporting luggage and groceries down to the house! We had great snowfalls which made for a very picturesque view! A family of deers hung out in the back area for quite a while with 2, 12 point Bucks and 3 Does. Very Sweet! We were hoping to see Moose and Bears 🙂 The kitchen was very well stocked with condiments, spices, coffee, paper plates, napkins, paper towels, salad dressings, cooking oil, etc. Thank you! One suggestion -The thermostat was a bit complicated, as 2 of the 3 bedrooms would create too much heat in the rooms if the doors were shut. The beds were not bad, but might be a bit more comfortable with foam toppers, just our opinion :-)The Hot Tub was wonderful, you might want to include directions/suggestions when the water level is low.Very quiet area and great place for a family winter retreat, especially if you want privacy and want to stay in the cabin your entire trip. And the games were a nice addition for children, with one more suggestion - adding more darts for the dart board would be awesome! Pros: Good close access to Nederland and the various mountain areas for hiking/biking. Very nice views off the mountain. Rustic cabin feel and extra sleeping quarters in loft if you had a big family/kids. Cons: Master Bedroom bed is horrible. It felt like we were leaning in all different directions and I think it's because the log wood frame wasn't supportive in a balanced way for the entire mattress. Maybe a box spring or something could help. The master bath is also VERY cozy, almost too small to sit on the toilet if you are over 6ft tall with longer legs. WiFi is abysmally slow, I assume it is via satellite. I had to do a few quick things for work and it was easier/faster to tether to my phone which got 1-2 bars LTE intermittently than running off the WiFi. If you want to truly disconnect, that's a good thing. If you have some needs for connectivity, this might not be the right place. Almost no cell signal for calls as well unless maybe there is a local provider with better coverage. Neutral: The cabin is definitely located up a VERY difficult road, with a very steep driveway. It was fine for our AWD SUV in the summer, but caveat emptor if you are trying to get up the mountain in the winter. I'm sure it would be near impossible in a FWD or RWD car. That is enumerated in the listing, so it was not a surprise to us. If you have a lot of things to do in Boulder, I would suggest renting closer as well in the winter, the roads are very windy and I'm sure in big snows quite challenging to get to the housing area without a very capable vehicle. In winter, even if you had a AWD SUV, I would not attempt the driveway as is suggested. The only kind of vehicle I could see getting up and down that driveway in winter is a full locking 4WD with chains or winter specific tires. The driveway isn't very long, but my MIL with knee issues definitely felt it walking up and down when parking in the cul de sac at the top of the driveway. So if you have a disabled member of family with mobility issues, be aware when renting because shuttling up and down via the driveway may not be possible in your vehicle. Also definitely not ADA compliant or wheelchair accessible so be aware. Overall we had a very good time at the cabin, but with many of our events being in Boulder, we wish we had rented closer/within Boulder itself. That was not the cabins fault, we just should have researched better when looking for a place to stay. It was exactly what we were looking for. Private and off the beaten path. There were a couple drivers that drive a little crazy around the winding gravel road. We played golf during the day, explored the area in the evening, and came back to sleep and shower. The view off of the back deck was lovely. However, there was some dog poop left on the balcony from another guest. Additionally, there isnt great service and the wifi signal was critical. If too many devices are on it, it can be problematic. Finally, youll need a 4-wheel drive car to get up the dirt streets, on a steep incline. Our local friend drove us around and he felt like it was somewhat difficult to maneuver. Again, overall, we had a great experience there and knew what we were getting into. Just do your research prior to booking the stay. The air felt cleaner up there and it was so quiet! A really relaxing area to stay in. Great insight into adventurous "4WD Cabin in the Clouds." No argument there when we say AWD is highly encouraged in summer and required in the snowy months! We apologize that we missed the balcony surprise. This is a dog-friendly property and surely someone mistakenly did not curb their furry friend. WiFi can be spotty up here, and you bring up a very good point for digital nomads to note. Maybe the time away from digital turned out to not be so bad because the peace, quiet, and tranquility that filled that space felt so great! The home is decked out with plenty of games and a great entertainment system! It was lovely to turn on the fireplaces and nice and warm with how cold the weather was outside. The only downside, and this is completely out of control of the AirBnb, is navigating down to the house from the cul-de-sac when there's ice over the path. That was a bit precarious and if your group has older people or people who aren't able-bodied, it would prove to be a quite dangerous. Other that that, everything about the AirBnB was perfect! The drive out is gorgeous and the view from the cabin is as well. All in all, I think the home is well worth the effort and price to get out there. We sure appreciate the stay and review of "4WD Cabin in the Clouds," Noah! My family stayed for a total of 9 days and definitely got our winter fix. The house has great areas to sled and play in the snow especially with the amounts that fell while we stayed. The upstairs was full of games and the air hockey table which was my girls personal fave. If you enjoy nature, the drive alone will make it worth while. The property is VERY private, the closest neighbors are a little less than a half mile away and there are lots of wooded area in between. The drive up and down the mountain will take about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how gangster you are about driving on the roads, my suggestion is that you get what you need in one shot while you are in town so that multiple trips arent needed. If you come in the winter, you WILL earn your winter mountain driving badge so a four wheel drive vehicle will definitely be needed, there werent joking about that. As far as wild life goes, there are either bobcats or lynx that we saw so policing any food trash is a must. Make sure to conserve water it is the top of the mountain. Overall this is a great pace for a quick break from reality or if you want to have to peace and quiet this is your go to. Sounds like you had a real snowy mountain experience, Brittany. To be sure, 4WD is absolutely required in the wintertime here - hence its name! Great tips for future guests, and we also do provide terrific support to all guests when they are here! It might be remote, but the SkyRun Team is here to help with all situations.
